Exporting Team Member Details from Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) to CSV

If your organization uses Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) to manage users, you can easily export user details into a CSV file that aligns with the format required for bulk importing team member details into the Social Card platform. This guide will walk you through exporting user information from Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) to a CSV file, ensuring compatibility with our platform.

While we allow you to name the columns however you’d like, you’ll map these columns to the appropriate fields inside the platform during the import process. For more details on the specific field requirements, please refer to our CSV file upload requirements.

You can find more information on this process in the Microsoft Entra ID docs: User Bulk Download.

Steps to Export User Data from Entra ID:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Entra Admin Center
    1. Go to Microsoft Entra Admin Center.
    2. Log in with your administrator account credentials.
  2. Navigate to Users
    1. In the left-hand menu, click on Users under the Identity section.
    2. This will display a list of all users within your directory.
  3. Filter or Select Users
    1. If needed, use the search bar or filters to narrow down the list of users you want to export (e.g., filtering by department or title).
    2. You can select individual users or leave the list as-is to export all users.
  4. Export Users
    1. At the top of the user list, click the Download users button.
    2. Choose CSV as the export format. This will download a CSV file containing all the user details currently visible in the list.
  5. Map the Columns
    1. The exported CSV file will contain several default fields. You’ll need to ensure the columns are formatted to match the format required by our platform.
    2. Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet editor (e.g., Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) and optionally modify the data.
    3. You can change, modify, and add fields and columns to make the data more complete.
  6. Save and Import
    1. Once the CSV file is formatted, save it and you are ready for a bulk import operation.

Matching export fields

The fields in the table below represent direct matches between fields found in your Azure export and those used inside the Social Card import tool.

Social Card Field Azure Export Field Notes
email UserPrincipalName This field corresponds to the user’s email address.
first GivenName The user’s first name.
last Surname The user’s last name.
full name DisplayName The full display name of the user.
title JobTitle The user’s job title.
department Department The user’s department.
work phone TelephoneNumber The user’s work phone number.
mobile phone MobilePhone The user’s mobile phone number.
work address StreetAddress The user’s work address.

Important Note on Profile Photos

Entra ID (Azure AD) does not natively support exporting user profile photos (headshots) as part of its CSV export process. If your team requires photos to be included in the CSV import, you’ll need to source the images separately from a company media store or another tool where profile photos are managed like a DAM. Once you have the images, you can merge the URLs into the CSV file.
