Groups
Learn how to create and manage standard and custom Groups in Social Card.
Note:
- Groups are only available to teams on the Business or Enterprise Plans.
What are Groups?
Groups allow you to organize team members and business cards into structured "folders" within your Social Card workspace. They help you separate and manage your business cards by internal departments, brands, or business units while maintaining isolated customizations based on the unique networking needs of your various teams.
Groups are ideal for:
- Larger teams with a complex org chart comprised of many sub-teams with various roles in the business, whether customer-facing or not.
- Companies managing multiple brands under a central organization.
- Teams using HRIS tools (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID) to sync internal teams automatically with their Social Card workspace.
How Groups Work
- Each workspace can have many groups, and each group can have many cards.
- Each cardholder (recipient) can belong to multiple groups but can only have one business card per group.
- Groups can exist without members and can be used to categorize and organize business cards if you don't need the advanced isolation features.
- Groups are assigned a template to ensure brand and content consistency across their business cards. Each template can be unique to a group or shared across the workspace.
Group Memberships
Group Memberships define the relationship between cardholders (recipients) and groups. When a cardholder is assigned to a group, they can receive a business card based on the group's assigned template. Group membership ensures team members receive a business card with the correct branding, content, and customization settings defined for their team or department.
Key details about group memberships:
- Each cardholder can belong to multiple groups but can only have one business card per group.
- Changes to a group's settings or template automatically reflect on all member cards.
- Removing a member from a group can also remove their associated business card.

Managing Business Cards in Groups
Group Card Assignment
- Members can only have one business card per group.
- When a member is added to the group, they do not automatically receive a new business card. You can add cards to your group by adding a batch (an operation to add cards to the group).
Customizing Group Templates
Workspace templates and groups are isolated but do have a meaningful relationship. Each group must be assigned a card template before adding new group cards. This template lives with the group for the lifetime of the group, and currently, the group template cannot be changed once set. We recommend creating a template for each group so that branding, content, and details can be applied and modified.
